Il 20 marzo del 1991 è una data non particolarmente felice per la storia Europea del Milan: i rossoneri erano impegnati per il ritorno dei quarti di finale di Champions League contro l’Olympique Marsiglia. Dopo il pareggio della gara d’andata, al ritorno la squadra francese passa in vantaggio ma a pochi minuti dalla fine, si spengono diversi fari di uno dei riflettori dello stadio. L’arbitro sospende la gara per 20′ ma quando fischia per far riprendere il match, l’amministatore delegato rossonero Galliani dice alla squadra di rientrare negli spogliatoi senza riprendere la sfida. Questo comportamento comporta il 3-0 a tavolino e l’esclusione dalle competizioni europee nell’anno successivo.
