Ma in Cile sarà un’altra cosa

I giornali italiani, come sempre avari di complimenti patriottici, sottolinearono il fatto che al Mondiale dell’anno successivo sarebbe stata un’altra cosa. Ed infatti così fu.

Il pomeriggio del 4 Novembre del 1961, in una Torino che assaggiava il primo freddo autunnale, la Nazionale di mister Ferrari affrontò l’Israele di Mandi. In palio un posto per il torneo più prestigioso, in uno spareggio che aveva portato una vittoria azzurra già nel confronto d’andata, disputato a Tel Aviv quasi un mese prima.

La partita di Torino, però, passerà alla storia soprattutto per i 4 gol segnati da un funambolico calciatore argentino, naturalizzato italiano e con un numero 10 sulle spalle. Omar Sivori segnerà un poker storico, diventando il calciatore più prolifico della Nazionale in una sola partita. Quello di sessant’anni fa sarà anche l’incontro di un giovanotto di nome Mariolino Corso. Il calciatore dell’Inter, dopo aver deliziato il pubblico israeliano (con una delle sue punizioni a foglia morta), riportando l’Italia sul 2-2 (doppietta sua) nell’andata dello spareggio, siglerà, in quel pomeriggio piemontese, anche il gol numero 500 nella storia della Nazionale italiana.

Una prestazione sontuosa che, però, non gli valse la convocazione per l’estate successiva. Venne infatti escluso dalla rosa dei partenti per il Cile, salvo poi vendicarsi a modo suo durante una amichevole tra la sua Inter e la nazionale cecoslovacca. Un gesto dell’ombrello rivolto a Ferrari che gli varrà, probabilmente, l’esclusione dal giro azzurro per molto tempo (salvo sporadiche presenze).
