Un altro lutto nel mondo del calcio inglese. Se ne va Ian St. John, colonna del Liverpool che negli anni ’60 si rese protagonista di un decennio passato alla storia.

Quell’attaccante scozzese era arrivato alla corte dei Reds nel 1961, pagato 37.000 sterline per volere del suo conterraneo Bill Shankly. Ed insieme conquisteranno una storica promozione in Prima Divisione, in quel 1962 che lo vedrà cecchino prolifico alla corte di uno dei più importanti club britannici.

10 anni fantastici conditi da due campionati e una Coppa d’Inghilterra. Proprio quella, la FA CUP del 1965, sarà il suo marchio indelebile nella storia. Un colpo di testa in tuffo a pochi minuti dalla fine e Leeds battuto.

In Nazionale giocherà 25 gare, segnando un totale di 9 reti.
