[…] 22 gennaio 1981, esattamente 40 anni fa, quando Farina annunciò il suo addio al mondo del calcio e contestualmente il passaggio, cioè il ritorno, di Rossi alla Juventus.

[…] Sì, perché dopo la vetta raggiunta nel 1978, la vittoria alle buste con Boniperti per la comproprietà di Pablito si sarebbe presto rivelata una sconfitta. […] Per aver voluto collocare il Vicenza in una dimensione che lo avrebbe inevitabilmente rovinato. E così accadde, con l’aspetto sportivo che andò anche peggio del previsto. Nel 1978-79 il Vicenza retrocedette in B, dovette in qualche modo (lo fece con il prestito al Perugia, da 500 milioni a stagione) liberarsi di Rossi e dopo avere sfiorato il ritorno in A con Renzo Ulivieri in panchina iniziò male stagione 1980-81, con allenatori prima Savoinie poi Viciani. Contestato dalla piazza e strangolato dai debiti, Farina il 22 gennaio annunciò la decisione di chiudere la sua avventura nel calcio.
