Roberto La Paz, storia del primo ‘coloured’ nel calcio italiano

NAPOLITODAY.IT (Davide Schiavon) – Nell’estate del 1947 il Calcio Napoli presieduto da Pasquale Russo invia in missione in Sud America Raffaele Sansone e Michele Andreolo […] tornano in piroscafo a settembre[…] Con loro scendono dalla nave alcuni calciatori […] Nel gruppo c’è, però, anche un altro calciatore […] Si tratta di Luis Roberto La Paz, nato a Canelones in Uruguay nell’agosto 1919. La Paz è un centravanti proveniente dal Sud America, squadra uruguaiana: sa essere freddo sotto porta ma ha anche colpi che esaltano gli spettatori, movenze compassate e finte disarmanti. Si tratta del primo calciatore di colore a giocare nel campionato italiano.

Esordisce contro la Juventus, gioca per tre stagioni nel Napoli e viene ricordato anche per l’insolita (all’epoca) usanza di indossare i guanti durante le gare in trasferta sui freddi campi del Nord. Di lui si ricorda anche una partita definita da un giornalista del Corriere dello Sport “magistrale” contro il Modena, in cui gli azzurri vinsero 5-1 battendo una difesa che fino a quel momento sembrava impenetrabile. Nel giugno del 1948 un suo gol all’Inter, segnato a Milano, fu annullato nell’incredulità generale: avrebbe consentito agli azzurri di strappare un punto in un campionato assai triste, che terminò con la retrocessione.

In tutto La Paz disputò (secondo alcune statistiche) 33 partite segnando 6 gol, vincendo un campionato di serie B con il Napoli. Venne ceduto nel 1950 all’Olympique di Marsiglia[…]
