Nel 2000 arrivarono a Trigoria rinforzi come Samuel ed Emerson e per scucire il titolo ai cugini della Lazio Franco Sensi decise di spendere 70 miliardi per il bomber più prolifico della storia viola: Gabriel Omar Batistuta, che nelle nove stagioni (una in Serie B in riva all’Arno non era riuscito a tramutare in realtà il sogno tricolore. Il 6 giugno di vent’anni fa allo stadio Olimpico l’argentino veniva presentato al popolo romanista… tredicimila presenze sotto la canicola delle ore 13. “Benvenuto Omar, Roma è con te” recita uno striscione in quella che è appena diventata la sua curva. Qualche giorno più tardi il Corriere dello Sport gli dedicò una videocassetta, un antipasto di reti (soprattutto) gigliate prima del dessert giallorosso. Furono venti le realizzazioni di ‘Batigol’ nel campionato successivo all’Europeo in Belgio e Olanda: nell’annata del terzo scudetto della storia romanista. L’obiettivo di Sensi si realizzava. Un sogno che il 6 giugno 2000 veniva concepito dal ‘Re Leone’ e dalla Lupa.
