[…] Nel 2001, Roy Keane, in un derby contro il Manchester United, a seguito di un’entrata killer, gli procurò la rottura del ginocchio che poi mise praticamente fine alla carriera del norvegese. […] Alf-Inge Haaland è stato per diverso tempo un calciatore molto noto in Premier League. […] Negli anni trascorsi al Leeds, si rese protagonista di un episodio che poi sarà la causa della sua carriera chiusa anzitempo. In un match contro il Manchester United nel 1997, quando Haaland giocava ancora nel Leeds. Nei Red Devils giocava una bandiera come Roy Keane che in un inserimento verso l’area di rigore avversaria, fu contrastato da Wetherall e dallo stesso Haaland, che con uno scatto decisivo riuscì a fermare l’irlandese. Keane si accascia, Haaland preso dalla foga del momento, pensando che stesse simulando e va a dirne quattro al centrocampista dello United prima di essere fermato dal proprio portiere Martyn.

Roy Keane, nei minuti conclusivi del derby tra Manchester United e City, si trova a contendere un pallone ad Haaland, ma invece di colpire la sfera, entrerà a martello dritto sul ginocchio del norvegese. L’irlandese fu espulso, ma prima di lasciare il campo, disse qualcosa all’orecchio di Haaland, come a volergli ricordare la sua vendetta. Risultato? Ginocchio ko e carriera da quel momento praticamente finita per il norvegese.
