[…] Negli anni ’90, quando lo conoscevano tutti, non gliene avresti dati molti di meno: eppure oggi compie 62 anni. Stempiatura abbondante e aria non proprio da ragazzino, che però contribuivano in qualche modo a creare il personaggio. Un personaggio chiamato Thomas Ravelli: professione portiere della Svezia negli anni 80 e 90…del Göteborg a dir la verità, per più di 400 partite. Ma Thomas Ravelli da Vimmerby (come Astrid Lindgren) è il portiere della Svezia per antonomasia. Ravelli, sì, e non Svensson o Nilsson o Andersson. Perché nel sangue di Thomas c’è laVal di Sole, c’è il Trentino, un nonno di Mezzana che si trasferisce in Svezia assieme alla moglie e lì resta, mettendo al mondo un figlio medico, Peter, che presta i suoi servigi anche a una squadra di calcio.

[…] Già, perché Thomas non si fa grossi problemi stilistici: quel che oggi fa Neuer, uscire di gran carriera e coi piedi sull’attaccante avversario lanciato in corsa, Ravelli lo faceva senza problemi negli anni’80.

[…] Ha 36 anni suonati quando arriva l’occasione del mondiale negli Stati Uniti: […] quarti di finale con la Romania di Hagi e Raducioiu. […] Rigori. Qui Thomas è protagonista assoluto: parando un tiro dal dischetto a Raducioiu e quello decisivo a Belodedici, porta la Svezia in semifinale e diventa famoso per le esultanze pittoresche dopo i tiri neutralizzati.
